I wanted a Strat for some reason, so I went out and bought one on a whim. All the other guitars I own have rosewood fretboards, so I wanted one with a maple fretboard, so I bought it.
I chose this one because a model in CAR (Candy Apple Red), which is brighter than the so-called OCR (Old Candy Apple Red), had just come out.
